Informations on the water releases from the dam on the Couesnon riverThe regulated water releases are activated 6 hours after high tide.
Every water release generates a current which gradually increases to reach, 20 minutes later, a maximum and limited rate of flow of 100 m3 / second (approx.3500 ft3/sec ) downstream, directly next to the dam.
After the release, the water level of the Couesnon river can approximatively increase to a height of 40 cm (approx.16 inches) in the bay, thus widening significantly the river bed.
The duration of the water release depends on the amount of water stored upstream of the dam. It can last between 2 and 5 hours.
For the actual time and duration of the water release on the day or the day after, please visit the internet site : www.projetmontsaintmichel.fr or consult the illuminated notice board at the place known as “La Caserne” situated next to the dam, alongside the road leading to Mont Saint-Michel.
